English Translation
Hadrat Jabir ibn 'Abdillah (may Allah be well pleased with both father and son) narrated: The sun eclipsed during the time of the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) on a very hot day. The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) prayed with his Companions. He prolonged his standing until they began to fall down. Then he bowed for a long time. Then he raised his head and stood for a long time, less than the first standing. Then he bowed for a long time, less than the first bowing. Then he raised his head, then he prostrated. Then he did the same in the second Rak'ah. Then the sun became clear. He stated: "Indeed, the sun and moon are two signs among the signs of Allah. They do not eclipse for the death of anyone nor for his life. When you see that, remember Allah." They said: "O Messenger of Allah, we saw you reach for something while you were in your place, then we saw you step back." He stated: "I saw Paradise - or Paradise was shown to me - and I reached for a cluster of grapes from it. Had I taken it, you would have eaten from it for as long as the world lasts. And I saw the Fire - I have never seen anything more terrifying than it - and I saw that most of its inhabitants are women." They asked: "Why, O Messenger of Allah?" He stated: "Due to their ingratitude." It was asked: "Do they disbelieve in Allah?" He stated: "They are ungrateful to their husbands and ungrateful for kindness. If you were to do good to one of them for a lifetime, then she sees one fault from you, she will say: 'I have never seen any good from you.'"
