English Translation
Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her) said: I never knew my parents except that they were following the religion. Not a day would pass except that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) would come to us at both ends of the day, morning and evening. When the Muslims were tested, Abu Bakr set out to migrate towards the land of Abyssinia, until when he reached Bark al-Ghimad, he met Ibn al-Dughunnah, who was the chief of the Qarah tribe. He said: Where are you heading, O Abu Bakr? Abu Bakr said: My people have expelled me, so I want to travel through the land and worship my Lord. Ibn al-Dughunnah said: Indeed, one like you, O Abu Bakr, should neither leave nor be made to leave. You earn for the destitute, maintain kinship ties, carry the burden [of others], host the guest, and help in matters of truth. I am your protector, so return and worship your Lord in your land. Ibn al-Dughunnah traveled back with Abu Bakr, and Ibn al-Dughunnah went among the disbelievers of Quraysh and said: Indeed, one like Abu Bakr should not leave. Are you expelling a man who earns for the destitute, maintains kinship ties, carries the burden [of others], hosts the guest, and helps in matters of truth? So Quraysh honored the protection of Ibn al-Dughunnah and granted safety to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him). They said to Ibn al-Dughunnah: Tell Abu Bakr to worship his Lord in his house as much as he wishes, and to pray in it as much as he wishes, and to recite as much as he wishes, but he should not harm us and should not pray or recite openly outside his house. So he did.
