English Translation
Hajib ibn Arkin al-Farghani in Damascus informed us, al-Rabi' ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, I heard Layth ibn Sa'd say: Ibrahim ibn Abi Ablah narrated to me from al-Walid ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Jurashi from Jubayr ibn Nufayr who said: Awf ibn Malik al-Ashja'i narrated to me that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) looked at the sky one day and said: "This is the time when knowledge will be lifted." A man from the Ansar called Labid ibn Ziyad said to him: O Messenger of Allah, will knowledge be lifted when it has been established and hearts have retained it? The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said to him: "I used to consider you among the most knowledgeable people of Madinah." Then he mentioned the Jews and Christians despite what they have in their hands of the Book of Allah. He said: I met Shaddad ibn Aws and told him the hadith of Awf ibn Malik. He said: Awf spoke the truth. Shall I not point you to the first of that? Humility will be lifted until you will not see anyone humble."
