English Translation
Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Muthanna informed us, Ishaq ibn Ibrahim al-Marwazi narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us from Ayyub from Muhammad from Abu Ubaydah ibn Hudhayfah who said: I used to ask about the hadith of Adi ibn Hatim while he was next to me, but I would not go to him to ask him. So I went to him and asked him. He said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ was sent when he was sent, and I hated him more intensely than I had ever hated anything. So I went away until I was in the farthest land adjacent to the Romans. I said: "If I were to come to this man, if he is a liar, it would not be hidden from me, and if he is truthful, I would follow him." So I came, and when I arrived in Madinah, people recognized me and said: "Adi ibn Hatim has come, Adi ibn Hatim has come." The Prophet ﷺ said to me: "O Adi ibn Hatim, accept Islam and be safe." I said: "I have a religion." He said: "I know more about your religion than you" - two or three times. "Are you not the leader of your people?" I said: "Yes." He said: "Do you not eat the mirba' (a quarter of the spoils)?" I said: "Yes." He said: "That is not lawful for you in your religion." He said: I was humbled by that. Then he said: "O Adi ibn Hatim, accept Islam and be safe, for I think" - or "I see" - or as the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said - "that what prevents you from accepting Islam is the poverty you see around me. Soon the woman traveler will journey from al-Hirah without protection until she circumambulates the House. And the treasures of Kisra ibn Hurmuz will be opened to us. And wealth will overflow, or will overflow until a man will be concerned about who will accept his wealth as charity." Adi ibn Hatim said: I have seen the woman traveler journey from al-Hirah without protection until she circumambulates the House, and I was among the first cavalry to raid al-Mada'in upon the treasures of Kisra ibn Hurmuz. And I swear by Allah the third will surely come - it is the word of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ to me.
