أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ بْنِ قُتَيْبَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَزِيدُ بْنُ مَوْهَبٍ حَدَّثَنِي اللَّيْثُ بْنُ سَعْدٍ وَسُفْيَانُ بْنُ عُيَيْنَةَ عَنِ ابْنِ شِهَابٍ أَنَّ سَهْلَ بْنَ سَعْدٍ السَّاعِدِيَّ أَخْبَرَهُ أَنَّ رَجُلًا اطَّلَعَ مِنْ جُحْرٍ فِي بَابِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ وَمَعَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ مِدْرًى يَحُكُّ بِهَا رَأْسَهُ فَلَمَّا رَآهُ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ قَالَ «لَوْ أَعْلَمُ أَنَّكَ تَنْظُرُنِي لَطَعَنْتُ بِهِ فِي عَيْنِكَ إِنَّمَا جُعِلَ الْإِذْنُ مِنْ أَجْلِ الْبَصَرِ»
English Translation
Abu Khalifah informed us, saying: Abu al-Walid narrated to us, saying: Shu'bah narrated to us from Mansur from Rib'i from Hudhayfah from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said: 'By the One in whose hand is my soul, you will enjoin what is right and forbid what is wrong, or Allah will soon send upon you a punishment from Him, then you will call upon Him and He will not answer you.'
