أَخْبَرَنَا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَلِيِّ بْنِ الْمُثَنَّى قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو خَيْثَمَةَ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا يَحْيَى بْنُ سَعِيدٍ عَنْ سَعِيدِ بْنِ أَبِي عَرُوبَةَ عَنْ قَتَادَةَ عَنْ مُطَرِّفِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ عَنْ عِيَاضِ بْنِ حِمَارٍ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ الرَّجُلُ يَشْتُمُنِي مِنْ قَوْمِي وَهُوَ دُونِي أَعَلَيَّ مِنْ بَأْسٍ أَنْ أَنْتَصِرَ مِنْهُ؟ قَالَ «الْمُسْتَبَّانِ شَيْطَانَانِ يَتَهَاتَرَانِ وَيَتَكَاذَبَانِ»
English Translation
Ahmad ibn Ali ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, Abu Khaythamah narrated to us, Yahya ibn Said narrated to us from Said ibn Abi Arubah, from Qatadah, from Mutarrif ibn Abd Allah, from Imran ibn Husayn (may Allah be pleased with him) from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said: «The best of you are my generation, then those who follow them, then those who follow them.»
