أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ بْنِ خُزَيْمَةَ حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَحْيَى الذُّهْلِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ الصَّمَدِ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَارِثِ حَدَّثَنَا الْمُسْتَمِرُّ بْنُ الرَّيَّانِ عَنْ أَبِي نَضْرَةَ عَنْ أَبِي سَعِيدٍ الْخُدْرِيِّ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللَّهِ ﷺ ذَكَرَ الدُّنْيَا فَقَالَ «إِنَّ الدُّنْيَا خَضِرَةٌ حُلْوَةٌ فَاتَّقُوهَا وَاتَّقُوا النِّسَاءَ» ثُمَّ ذَكَرَ نِسْوَةً ثَلَاثَةً مِنْ بَنِي إِسْرَائِيلَ امْرَأَتَيْنِ طَوِيلَتَيْنِ وَامْرَأَةً قَصِيرَةً لَا تُعْرَفُ فَاتَّخَذَتْ رِجْلَيْنِ مِنْ خَشَبٍ وَصَاغَتْ خَاتَمًا فَحَشَتْهُ مِنْ أَطْيَبِ الطِّيبِ فَإِذَا مَرَّتْ بِالْمَسْجِدِ أَوْ بِالْمَلَأِ قَالَتْ بِهِ فَفَتَحَتْهُ فَفَاحَ رِيحُهُ «
English Translation
Al-Hasan ibn Sufyan informed us, he said: Nasr ibn Ali narrated to us, he said: Ubaydah ibn Humayd narrated to us, from al-A'mash, from Anas ibn Sirin, from Abu al-Ahwas, from Abdullah, who said: The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: 'A person should not wish for death due to some harm that has afflicted him. But if he must do something, then let him say: O Allah, keep me alive as long as life is better for me, and cause me to die when death is better for me.'
