أَخْبَرَنَا الْفَضْلُ بْنُ الْحُبَابِ الْجُمَحِيُّ قَالَ حَدَّثَنَا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ حَرْبٍ عَنْ شُعْبَةَ عَنْ عَبْدِ الْعَزِيزِ بْنِ صُهَيْبٍ عَنِ أَنَسِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ قَالَ مَرُّوا عَلَى رَسُولِ اللَّهِ ﷺ بِجِنَازَةٍ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَقَالَ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» وَمَرُّوا بِأُخْرَى فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَقَالَ ﷺ «وَجَبَتْ» فَقَالَ عُمَرُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ مَا وَجَبَتْ؟ قَالَ «مَرُّوا بِتِلْكَ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا شَرًّا فَوَجَبَتِ النَّارُ وَمَرُّوا بِهَذِهِ فَأَثْنَوْا عَلَيْهَا خَيْرًا فَوَجَبَتِ الْجَنَّةُ وَأَنْتُمْ شُهَدَاءُ اللَّهِ فِي الْأَرْضِ»
English Translation
Hadrat Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: A funeral was brought past the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) and people spoke ill of the deceased. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "It has become obligatory." Then another funeral passed and people spoke well of the deceased. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "It has become obligatory." Hadrat 'Umar (may Allah be well pleased with him) submitted: "O Messenger of Allah, what has become obligatory?" He stated: "That one — they spoke ill of him, so the Fire has become obligatory for him. And this one — they spoke well of him, so Paradise has become obligatory for him. You are the witnesses of Allah on earth."
Urdu Translation
حضرت انس بن مالک رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے: رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے سامنے سے ایک جنازہ گزرا تو لوگوں نے اس کے بارے میں برائی کی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "واجب ہو گئی۔" پھر دوسرا جنازہ گزرا تو لوگوں نے اس کے بارے میں اچھائی بیان کی۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "واجب ہو گئی۔" حضرت عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! کیا واجب ہو گئی؟ آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: "اس کے بارے میں برائی کی گئی تو آگ واجب ہو گئی، اور اس کے بارے میں اچھائی بیان کی گئی تو جنت واجب ہو گئی۔ تم زمین پر اللہ کے گواہ ہو۔"
