Hadrat Abu Sa'id al-Khudri (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: Hadrat Ali al-Murtada (may Allah ennoble his countenance) sent gold in a leather pouch from Yemen to the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), and the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) distributed it among Zayd al-Khayl, al-Aqra' ibn Habis, 'Uyaynah ibn Hisn, and 'Alqamah ibn 'Ulathah. Some people from the Muhajirun and Ansar said: 'We are more deserving of this.' When this reached the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him), it distressed him and he stated: "Do you not trust me when I am the trustee of the One in the heavens? The news from the heavens comes to me morning and evening." Then a man with protruding eyes, prominent cheekbones, a raised forehead, a thick beard, a shaved head, and a tucked-up garment stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, fear Allah!' The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Am I not the most deserving person on earth to fear Allah?" Then the man turned away. Hadrat Khalid, the Sword of Allah (may Allah be well pleased with him), stood up and said: 'O Messenger of Allah, shall I not strike his neck?' He stated: "No, perhaps he prays." Hadrat Khalid (may Allah be well pleased with him) said: 'How many a person prays saying with his tongue what is not in his heart.' He stated: "I have not been commanded to search the hearts of people or to cut open their bellies." Then the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) looked at the man as he walked away and stated: "From the progeny of this man will emerge a people who will recite the Book of Allah, but it will not go beyond their throats. They will pass through the religion as an arrow passes through its prey." The narrator 'Umarah said: 'I believe he said: If I reach them, I will surely slay them as Thamud were slain.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت ابو سعید خدری رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ حضرت علی المرتضیٰ کرّم اللہ تعالیٰ وجہہ الکریم نے یمن سے رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس چمڑے میں سونا بھیجا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اسے زید الخیل، اقرع بن حابس، عیینہ بن حصن اور علقمہ بن علاثہ میں تقسیم فرمایا۔ مہاجرین اور انصار میں سے کچھ لوگوں نے کہا: 'ہم اس کے زیادہ حقدار ہیں۔' یہ بات نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کو پہنچی تو آپ کو تکلیف ہوئی اور ارشاد فرمایا: "کیا تم مجھ پر بھروسا نہیں کرتے جبکہ میں آسمان والے کا امین ہوں؟ آسمان کی خبر صبح و شام مجھ تک آتی ہے۔" پھر ایک شخص اٹھا جس کی آنکھیں ابھری ہوئیں، رخساروں کی ہڈیاں ابھری ہوئیں، چہرہ اونچا، داڑھی گھنی، سر منڈا ہوا اور تہبند اونچا تھا۔ اس نے کہا: 'یا رسول اللہ! اللہ سے ڈریے۔' نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: "کیا میں زمین والوں میں سب سے زیادہ اللہ سے ڈرنے کا حقدار نہیں ہوں؟" پھر وہ پیٹھ پھیر کر چلا گیا۔ حضرت خالد سیف اللہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ کھڑے ہوئے اور عرض کیا: 'یا رسول اللہ! کیا میں اس کی گردن نہ ماروں؟' آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: "نہیں، شاید وہ نماز پڑھتا ہو۔" حضرت خالد رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ نے عرض کیا: 'بہت سے نمازی ایسے ہیں جو زبان سے وہ کہتے ہیں جو دل میں نہیں ہوتا۔' آپ نے ارشاد فرمایا: "مجھے حکم نہیں دیا گیا کہ لوگوں کے دل چیروں یا ان کے پیٹ پھاڑوں۔" پھر نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اس کی طرف دیکھا جب وہ پیٹھ پھیرے جا رہا تھا اور ارشاد فرمایا: "اس کی نسل سے ایک قوم نکلے گی جو اللہ کی کتاب پڑھے گی لیکن وہ ان کے حلق سے نیچے نہیں اترے گی، وہ دین سے ایسے نکل جائیں گے جیسے تیر شکار سے نکل جاتا ہے۔" راوی عمارہ نے کہا: 'میرا گمان ہے کہ آپ نے فرمایا: اگر میں انہیں پا لوں تو انہیں قومِ ثمود کی طرح قتل کروں۔'
