English Translation
Ibn Umar narrated: A man from the Ansar came to the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, there are some matters I wish to ask about.' He said: 'Sit.' A man from Thaqif came and said, 'O Messenger of Allah, there are some matters I wish to ask about.' The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: 'The Ansari preceded you.' The Ansari said, 'He is a stranger, and the stranger has a right, so begin with him.' He turned to the Thaqafi and said: 'If you wish, I will answer what you were going to ask, and if you wish, you may ask me and I will inform you.' He said, 'O Messenger of Allah, rather answer me regarding what I was going to ask you.' He said: 'You came to ask me about bowing, prostration, prayer, and fasting.' He said, 'No, by the One who sent you with the truth, you have not missed anything that was in my mind.' He said: 'When you bow, place your palms on your knees, then spread your fingers apart, then remain until every limb takes its position. When you prostrate, place your forehead firmly and do not peck like a bird. Pray at the beginning of the day and at its end.' He said, 'O Prophet of Allah, what if I pray between them?' He said: 'Then you are one who prays. Fast from every month the thirteenth, fourteenth, and fifteenth.' The Thaqafi stood up. Then he turned to the Ansari and said: 'If you wish, I will inform you of what you came to ask, and if you wish, you may ask me and I will inform you.' He said, 'No, O Prophet of Allah, inform me of what I came to ask you.' He said: 'You came to ask me about the pilgrim - what is for him when he leaves his house? What is for him when he stands at Arafat? What is for him when he throws the pebbles? What is for him when he shaves his head? What is for him when he completes the final circumambulation of the House?' He said, 'O Prophet of Allah, by the One who sent you with the truth, you have not missed anything that was in my mind.' He said: 'Indeed, for him when he leaves his house, his mount does not take a step except that a good deed is written for him or a sin is removed from him. When he stands at Arafah, Allah descends to the lowest heaven and says: Look at My servants, disheveled and dusty. Bear witness that I have forgiven them their sins, even if they were as numerous as the drops of rain and the sands of 'Alij. When he throws the pebbles, no one knows what is for him until he is fully rewarded on the Day of Resurrection. When he shaves his head, for every hair that falls from his head, he has a light on the Day of Resurrection. When he completes the final circumambulation of the House, he emerges from his sins as on the day his mother gave birth to him.'
