حَدَّثَنَا الْحَسَنُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ ثَنَا أَبُو عَاصِمٍ ثَنَا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الْأَعْمَشِ عَنْ خَيْثَمَةَ عَنِ الْأَشْعَثِ بْنِ قَيْسٍ قَالَ وُلِدَ لِي غُلَامٌ فَبُشِّرْتُ بِهِ وَأَنَا عِنْدَ النَّبِيِّ ﷺ فَقُلْتُ وَدِدْتُ لَكُمْ مَكَانَهُ قَصْعَةً مِنْ خُبْزٍ وَلَحْمٍ فَقَالَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ ﷺ «إِنْ قُلْتَ ذَاكَ إِنَّهُمْ لَمَبْخَلَةٌ مَجْبَنَةٌ مَحْزَنَةٌ وَإِنَّهُمْ لَثَمَرَةُ الْقُلُوبِ وَقُرَّةُ الْعَيْنِ» هَذَا حَدِيثٌ صَحِيحٌ عَلَى شَرْطِ الشَّيْخَيْنِ وَلَمْ يُخَرِّجَاهُ على شرط البخاري ومسلم
English Translation
Hadrat Ash'ath ibn Qays (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrates: A son was born to me and I was given the glad tidings while I was in the presence of the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him). I said: "I would have preferred a bowl of bread and meat in his place for you." The Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: "Even if you say that, indeed they (children) are a cause of miserliness, cowardice, and grief; yet indeed they are the fruit of the hearts and the coolness of the eyes."
Urdu Translation
حضرت اشعث بن قیس رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ فرماتے ہیں: میرے ہاں لڑکا پیدا ہوا اور مجھے خوشخبری دی گئی جب میں نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم کے پاس تھا۔ میں نے عرض کیا: اس کی جگہ میں آپ کے لیے روٹی اور گوشت کا پیالہ زیادہ پسند کرتا۔ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: «اگر تم ایسا کہتے بھی ہو تو بے شک وہ (اولاد) بخل، بزدلی اور غم کا سبب ہیں، لیکن بے شک وہ دلوں کا پھل اور آنکھوں کی ٹھنڈک ہیں۔»
