[Machine] They landed on the Prophet ﷺ while he was reciting the Quran in the shade of a palm tree. When they heard him, they said, "Listen!" They said, "Silence!" They were nine, one of them was Zoba'ah. Allah (Glorified and Exalted be He) revealed: "And (remember) when We sent towards you (Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم) a group (of the jinn) to listen to the Qur'an..."; until "...clear misguidance", Surah Al-Imran (3:164). It is an authentic Hadith with a sound chain of narrators and they have not reported it. حَدَّثَنَا أَبُو عَلِيٍّ الْحَافِظُ أَنْبَأَ عَبْدَانُ الْأَهْوَازِيُّ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرِ بْنُ أَبِي شَيْبَةَ ثنا أَبُو أَحْمَدَ الزُّبَيْرِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَاصِمٍ عَنْ زِرٍّ عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ قَالَ هَبَطُوا عَلَى النَّبِيِّ ﷺ وَهُوَ يَقْرَأُ الْقُرْآنَ بِبَطْنِ نَخْلَةَ فَلَمَّا سَمِعُوهُ قَالُوا أَنْصِتُوا قَالُوا صَهٍ وَكَانُوا تِسْعَةً أَحَدُهُمْ زَوْبَعَةُ فَأَنْزَلَ اللَّهُ ﷻ {وَإِذْ صَرَفْنَا إِلَيْكَ نَفَرًا مِنَ الْجِنِّ يَسْتَمِعُونَ الْقُرْآنَ فَلَمَّا حَضَرُوهُ قَالُوا أَنْصِتُوا} [الأحقاف 29] الْآيَةُ إِلَى {ضَلَالٍ مُبِينٍ} [آل عمران 164]
English Translation
Abu Ali al-Hafiz informed us — Abdan al-Ahwazi informed us — Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shayba narrated to us — Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us — Sufyan narrated to us — from Asim — from Zirr — from Hadrat Abd Allah (ibn Mas'ud) (may Allah be well pleased with him) who said: They (the jinn) descended upon the Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) while he was reciting the Quran in the valley of Nakhla. When they heard him, they said: Listen! They said: Silence! They were nine, one of them being Zub'a. So Allah, Exalted is He, revealed: {And when We directed to you a few of the jinn, listening to the Quran. When they attended it, they said: Listen} [al-Ahqaf 29], the verse, until {clear error}. This hadith has an authentic chain of narration, and they did not narrate it.
Urdu Translation
ابو علی الحافظ نے ہمیں خبر دی — عبدان الاہوازی نے ہمیں خبر دی — ابو بکر بن ابی شیبہ نے ہم سے بیان کیا — ابو احمد الزبیری نے ہم سے بیان کیا — سفیان نے ہم سے بیان کیا — عاصم سے — زِرّ سے — حضرت عبد اللہ (بن مسعود) رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ فرمایا: وہ (جنّات) نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم پر اُترے جب آپ بطنِ نخلہ میں قرآن پڑھ رہے تھے۔ جب اُنہوں نے سنا تو کہنے لگے: خاموش ہو کر سنو! کہنے لگے: چپ! وہ نو تھے، اُن میں سے ایک زوبعہ تھا۔ تو اللہ تعالیٰ نے نازل فرمایا: {اور جب ہم نے جنّوں کے چند افراد تمہاری طرف متوجہ کیے جو قرآن سنتے تھے، جب وہ اس کے پاس حاضر ہوئے تو کہنے لگے: خاموش ہو کر سنو} [الاحقاف 29] آیت، {کھلی گمراہی} تک۔ اس حدیث کی سند صحیح ہے اور اُنہوں نے اسے روایت نہیں کیا۔
