It is narrated from Hadrat Ubayy ibn Ka'b (may Allah be well pleased with him) regarding the saying of Allah Almighty {And when your Lord took from the children of Adam, from their loins, their descendants and made them testify of themselves: Am I not your Lord? They said: Yes, we have testified} to {Would You then destroy us for what the falsifiers have done?} [al-A'raf 172-173]. He said: He gathered them all on that day — all that would come into existence until the Day of Resurrection. He made them into souls, then fashioned them and made them speak. They spoke. He took from them the covenant and the pledge and made them testify against themselves: Am I not your Lord? They said: Yes, we have testified — lest you say on the Day of Resurrection: Indeed we were of this unaware; or lest you say: It was only that our fathers associated partners before, and we were but descendants after them; would You then destroy us for what the falsifiers did? He said: I call the seven heavens and the seven earths to witness over you, and I call your father Adam to witness over you — lest you say on the Day of Resurrection: We did not know, or say: We were unaware of this. So do not associate anything with Me, for I shall send to you My Messengers to remind you of My covenant and My pledge, and I shall send down to you My Books. They said: We testify that You are our Lord and our God; we have no Lord other than You and no God other than You. Their father Adam was raised for them, and he looked at them and saw among them the rich and the poor, the beautiful and otherwise. He said: O my Lord, if only You had made Your servants equal! He said: Indeed, I love to be thanked. And he saw among them the Prophets like lamps, and they were singled out with another covenant of Messengership and Prophethood. That is the saying of Allah Almighty {And when We took from the Prophets their covenant, and from you, and from Nuh} [al-Ahzab 7].

حضرت ابی بن کعب رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے اللہ تعالیٰ کے فرمان {اور جب تمہارے رب نے بنی آدم کی پشتوں سے ان کی ذریت نکالی اور انہیں اپنے اوپر گواہ بنایا: کیا میں تمہارا رب نہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہاں، ہم گواہ ہیں} سے {کیا تو ہمیں باطل والوں کے فعل پر ہلاک کرے گا} [الاعراف 172-173] کے بارے میں مروی ہے۔ فرمایا: اللہ نے اس دن انہیں جمع کیا — وہ سب جو قیامت تک ہونے والے تھے۔ انہیں روحیں بنایا، پھر صورت دی اور بولنے کی طاقت دی تو وہ بولے۔ ان سے عہد و پیمان لیا اور خود ان پر گواہ بنایا: کیا میں تمہارا رب نہیں؟ انہوں نے کہا: ہاں، ہم گواہ ہیں — تاکہ تم قیامت کے دن نہ کہو: ہم اس سے غافل تھے؛ یا نہ کہو: ہمارے باپ دادا نے شرک کیا اور ہم ان کے بعد کی نسل تھے۔ فرمایا: میں تم پر سات آسمانوں اور سات زمینوں کو گواہ بناتا ہوں اور تمہارے باپ آدم کو گواہ بناتا ہوں — تاکہ قیامت کے دن نہ کہو ہمیں علم نہ تھا۔ میرے ساتھ کسی کو شریک نہ ٹھہراؤ، میں تمہاری طرف اپنے رسول بھیجوں گا جو تمہیں عہد و پیمان یاد دلائیں گے اور تم پر کتابیں نازل کروں گا۔ انہوں نے کہا: ہم گواہی دیتے ہیں کہ تو ہمارا رب اور معبود ہے، تیرے سوا ہمارا کوئی رب نہیں اور تیرے سوا ہمارا کوئی معبود نہیں۔ ان کے باپ آدم کو بلند کیا گیا تو انہوں نے دیکھا — ان میں امیر و غریب، خوبصورت اور غیر خوبصورت۔ عرض کیا: اے رب! اگر تو اپنے بندوں میں برابری فرماتا! فرمایا: مجھے یہ پسند ہے کہ میرا شکر ادا کیا جائے۔ اور ان میں انبیاء کو چراغوں کی مانند دیکھا، اور انہیں رسالت و نبوت کے الگ عہد سے مخصوص کیا گیا۔ یہ اللہ تعالیٰ کا فرمان ہے {اور جب ہم نے نبیوں سے ان کا عہد لیا اور تم سے اور نوح سے} [الاحزاب 7]۔
