English Translation
Al-Bara' ibn Azib and Zayd ibn Arqam (may Allah be pleased with them both) said: "We used to trade during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). We asked the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) about currency exchange (e.g., selling silver for silver). He said: 'If it is hand to hand (on the spot), it is permissible. If it is on credit, it is not permissible.'"
Urdu Translation
سیدنا براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہ اور زید بن ارقم رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہہم رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے دور میں تجارت کیا کرتے تھے تو ہم نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے صرف کے بارے میں دریافت کیا (مثلا روپیہ روپے کے بدلے بیچنا) تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ارشاد فرمایا:”اگر ہاتھوں ہاتھ (یعنی نقد) ہو تو جائز ہے اور اگر ادھار ہو تو جائز نہیں۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 989]
