English Translation
Mu'awiyah ibn Abi Sufyan (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that while he was on the minbar, the mu'adhin called the adhan. When he said "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar," Mu'awiyah also said "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar." When the mu'adhin said "Ashhadu an la ilaha illAllah," Mu'awiyah said "Wa ana" (And I too). When the mu'adhin said "Ashhadu anna Muhammadan Rasulullah," Mu'awiyah said "Wa ana." After the adhan was finished, Mu'awiyah said: "O people, I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) at this very place saying the same things you heard me say when the mu'adhin called the adhan."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا معاویہ بن سفیان رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہوہ منبر پر بیٹھے ہوئے تھے کہ مؤذن نے اذان کہی۔ تو جب اس نے کہا (اﷲاکبر اﷲاکبر) معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے بھی کہا (اﷲاکبر اﷲاکبر) پھر مؤذن نے کہا ((اشھد ان لا الہٰ الا اللہ)) تو معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا ((وانا)) مؤذن نے کہا ((اشھد ان محمد رسول اللہ)) تو معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا ((وانا)) پھر اذان ختم ہو چکی تو معاویہ رضی اللہ عنہ نے کہا کہ اے لوگو! میں نے رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمسے اسی مقام (یعنی منبر) پر سنا کہ جب مؤذن نے اذان دی تو آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلموہی فرماتے جاتے تھے جو تم نے میری گفتگو سنی۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 511]
