English Translation
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said: "When Allah first made prayer obligatory, He prescribed it as two rak'ahs, both for the resident and the traveler. The prayer for the traveler was kept as it was, and the prayer for the resident was increased."
Urdu Translation
ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کہتی ہیں کہاللہ نے جب نماز فرض کی تھی تو دو، دو رکعتیں فرض کی تھیں، حضر میں (بھی) اور سفر میں (بھی)، تو سفر کی نماز (اپنی اصلی حالت پر) قائم رکھی گئی اور حضر کی نماز میں زیادتی کر دی گئی۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 229]
