English Translation
Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) used to say, "I know the occasion of the revelation of the verse of hijab (veiling) better than anyone. Even Ubayy ibn Kab used to ask me about it (although he was a Companion of high rank). The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) had newly married the Mother of the Believers, Zaynab bint Jahsh (may Allah be pleased with her), and he (peace be upon him) had married her in Medina. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) invited people to eat when the day had risen. When they all left (after eating), the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and a few men remained sitting with him (peace be upon him). Then the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) got up and walked away, and I walked with him too. When he reached the door of the apartment of the Mother of the Believers, Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), he thought those people would have left, so he (peace be upon him) returned, and I returned with him too. (But we saw that) they were all still sitting in their places. He (peace be upon him) went back again, and I went with him too. When he reached the door of Aisha's (may Allah be pleased with her) apartment, he thought they would have left. He (peace be upon him) returned, and I came with him too, and saw that those people had (indeed) left. So he (peace be upon him) let down a curtain between me and himself, and (at that very time) the command of hijab was revealed."
Urdu Translation
سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہا کرتے تھے کہپردہ کی آیت کا شان نزول سب سے زیادہ مجھے معلوم ہے سیدنا ابی بن کعب بھی اس کو مجھ ہی سے پوچھتے تھے (حالانکہ بڑے درجے کے صحابی تھے)۔ رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکی ام المؤمنین زینب بنت حجش رضی اللہ عنہا سے نئی شادی ہوئی تھی اور آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے ان سے مدینہ میں نکاح کیا تھا، رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے لوگوں کو کھانے کے لیے اس وقت بلایا جب دن چڑھ گیا تھا، جب سب (کھا کر) چلے گئے تو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلماور چند آدمی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ہمراہ بیٹھے رہے۔ پھر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکھڑے ہو کر چلے گئے اور میں بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ چلا گیا، جب آپ، ام المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے حجرے کے دروازے تک پہنچے تو خیال کیا کہ وہ لوگ چلے گئے ہوں گے آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلملوٹ آئے اور میں بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ہمراہ واپس آیا (تو دیکھا کہ) وہ سب کے سب اپنی جگہ پر بیٹھے ہیں، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمدوبارہ واپس چلے گئے اور میں بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ گیا جب حجرہ عائشہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے دروازے تک گئے تو خیال کیا کہ وہ چلے گئے ہوں گے، آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلملوٹ آئے اور میں بھی آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ساتھ آیا دیکھا کہ وہ لوگ (واقعی) چلے گئے ہیں، پس آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے میرے اور اپنے درمیان پردہ ڈال دیا اور (اسی وقت) پردہ کا حکم اترا۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1910]
