English Translation
Narrated Anas (may Allah be pleased with him): The Prophet (peace be upon him) stayed between Madinah and Khaibar for three nights, during which his marriage with Safiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) was consummated. I invited the people to the Prophet's wedding feast. There was neither bread nor meat in it. The Prophet ordered Bilal to spread the dining sheet, and dates, dried yogurt, and butter were placed on it. The Muslims discussed among themselves whether Safiyyah was a Mother of the Believers or a slave. They said: "If the Prophet observes hijab for her, she is a Mother of the Believers; if not, she is a slave." When the Prophet set out, he made a place for her behind him on the she-camel and drew a curtain. Thus the people knew she was a Mother of the Believers.

سیدنا انس رضی اللہ عنہ کہتے ہیں کہنبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلممدینہ سے خیبر کے درمیان تین شب ٹھہرے ان میں ام المؤمنین صفیہ رضی اللہ عنہا سے شب عروسی گزاری پھر میں نے لوگوں کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمکے ولیمہ کے لیے بلایا، نہ اس میں روٹی تھی اور نہ گوشت تھا، اس میں صرف یہ تھا کہ سیدنا بلال رضی اللہ عنہ کو رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے دسترخوان بچھانے کا حکم دیا۔ دسترخوان بچھا دیا گیا پھر اس پر کھجوریں اور پنیر اور گھی ڈال دیا گیا۔ پھر مسلمانوں نے باہم گفتگو کی کہ صفیہ امہات المؤمنین میں سے ایک ہیں یا لونڈی ہیں؟ پھر خود ہی کہنے لگے کہ اگر رسول اللہصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے انھیں حجاب کرایا تو امہات المؤمنین میں سے ہوں گی اور اگر حجاب نہ کرایا تو لونڈی رہیں گی۔ چنانچہ جب آپصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے کوچ کیا تو ام المؤمنین صفیہ رضی اللہ عنہا کے واسطے اپنے پیچھے بیٹھنے کی جگہ بنائی اور پردہ کھینچ دیا۔[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1650]
