English Translation
Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), when he received the news that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) had burned some people, said: "Had I been in his place, I would never have burned them, because the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Do not punish with the punishment of Allah (i.e., fire).' But I would certainly have killed them, as the Prophet (peace be upon him) said: 'Whoever changes his religion, kill him.'"
Urdu Translation
سیدنا ابن عباس رضی اللہ عنہما کوجب یہ خبر پہنچی کہ امیرالمؤمنین علی رضی اللہ عنہ نے کچھ لوگوں کو آگ میں جلا دیا ہے تو انھوں نے کہا کہ اگر میں (خلیفہ) ہوتا تو ہرگز انھیں نہ جلاتا۔ اس لیے کہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا ہے:”اللہ کے عذاب سے کسی کو عذاب نہ کرو۔“اور بیشک میں انھیں قتل کر دیتا جیسا کہ نبی کریمصلی اللہ علیہ وسلمنے فرمایا ہے:”جو شخص اپنا دین بدل دے اسے قتل کر دو۔“[مختصر صحيح بخاري/حدیث: 1294]
