حَدَّثَنَا عَلِيُّ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ، حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ، عَنْ عَمْرٍو، عَنْ أَبِي الْعَبَّاسِ الشَّاعِرِ الأَعْمَى، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ عُمَرَ، قَالَ لَمَّا حَاصَرَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم الطَّائِفَ فَلَمْ يَنَلْ مِنْهُمْ شَيْئًا قَالَ " إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ". فَثَقُلَ عَلَيْهِمْ وَقَالُوا نَذْهَبُ وَلاَ نَفْتَحُهُ ـ وَقَالَ مَرَّةً نَقْفُلُ ـ فَقَالَ " اغْدُوا عَلَى الْقِتَالِ ". فَغَدَوْا فَأَصَابَهُمْ جِرَاحٌ فَقَالَ " إِنَّا قَافِلُونَ غَدًا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ ". فَأَعْجَبَهُمْ فَضَحِكَ النَّبِيُّ صلى الله عليه وسلم، وَقَالَ سُفْيَانُ مَرَّةً فَتَبَسَّمَ. قَالَ قَالَ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ حَدَّثَنَا سُفْيَانُ الْخَبَرَ كُلَّهُ.
English Translation
Hadrat Abdullah bin Umar (may Allah be well pleased with them both) narrates that when the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) besieged Ta'if and could not conquer its people, he declared, 'We shall return, if Allah wills.' This distressed the Companions (may Allah be well pleased with them) and they said, 'Shall we depart without conquering it?' The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared, 'Go forth to battle in the morning.' They fought in the morning and many sustained wounds. The Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) then declared, 'We shall return tomorrow, if Allah wills.' This delighted them, and the Beloved Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) smiled. Sufyan once used the word 'he gave a gentle smile.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت عبداللہ بن عمر رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہما فرماتے ہیں کہ جب رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے طائف کا محاصرہ فرمایا اور کچھ کامیابی نہ ہوئی تو ارشاد فرمایا: ان شاء اللہ ہم واپس چلیں گے۔ صحابہ کرام کو یہ بات بھاری گزری اور عرض کیا: ہم واپس چلے جائیں اور فتح نہ کریں؟ حضور صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: صبح لڑائی کرو۔ صحابہ نے صبح لڑائی کی اور بہتوں کو زخم آئے۔ حضور صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: ان شاء اللہ کل ہم واپس چلیں گے۔ صحابہ کو یہ بات اچھی لگی اور نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم مسکرائے۔ سفیان نے ایک بار تبسم فرمایا کا لفظ استعمال کیا۔
