It is narrated from Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat ' Aisha al-Siddiqa (may Allah be well pleased with her) that she submitted to the Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him): Have you ever experienced a day harder than the day of Uhud? The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: Your people (the Quraysh) caused me much hardship, but the hardest of all was the day of 'Aqaba, when I presented myself to Ibn 'Abd Yalil bin 'Abd Kulal, but he refused my call. I departed in a state of deep grief and did not come to my senses until I reached Qarn al-Tha'alib. I raised my head and saw a cloud shading me, and in it was Jibril (upon him be peace). He called out to me and said: Allah has heard what your people have said to you and their rejection of your message. He has sent the Angel of the Mountains to you so that you may command him as you wish regarding them. Then the Angel of the Mountains called out to me, offered his greetings of peace, and said: O Muhammad (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! Command whatever you wish — if you wish, I shall crush them between the two mountains (al-Akhshabayn). The Noble Prophet (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) declared: No, rather I hope that Allah shall bring forth from their offspring people who will worship Allah alone, associating no partner with Him.
Urdu Translation
حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ صدیقہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم سے عرض کیا: کیا آپ پر کوئی دن اُحد کے دن سے بھی زیادہ سخت گزرا ہے؟ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: تمہاری قوم (قریش) کی طرف سے مجھے بہت تکلیفیں پہنچیں، لیکن سب سے سخت دن عقبہ کا دن تھا جب میں نے (طائف کے سردار) ابن عبد یالیل بن عبد کلال کے سامنے اپنے آپ کو پیش کیا، مگر اس نے میری دعوت قبول نہ کی۔ میں وہاں سے بے حد رنجیدہ ہو کر روانہ ہوا اور مجھے ہوش نہ آیا سوائے اس کے کہ جب میں قرن الثعالب پہنچا۔ میں نے اپنا سر اٹھایا تو دیکھا کہ ایک بادل مجھ پر سایہ کیے ہوئے ہے اور اس میں جبرائیل علیہ السلام موجود ہیں۔ انہوں نے مجھے پکارا اور فرمایا: اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کے بارے میں آپ کی قوم کی باتیں اور ان کا انکار سن لیا ہے، اور آپ کے پاس پہاڑوں کا فرشتہ بھیجا ہے تاکہ آپ ان (کافروں) کے بارے میں جو چاہیں اسے حکم دے دیں۔ پھر پہاڑوں کے فرشتے نے مجھے پکارا، سلام عرض کیا اور فرمایا: اے محمد (صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم)! آپ جو چاہیں حکم فرمائیں — اگر آپ چاہیں تو میں دونوں طرف کے پہاڑ (اخشبین) ان پر ملا دوں۔ نبی کریم صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: نہیں، بلکہ مجھے امید ہے کہ اللہ تعالیٰ ان کی نسلوں سے ایسے لوگ پیدا فرمائے گا جو صرف اللہ وحدہ لا شریک لہ کی عبادت کریں گے۔
