حَدَّثَنَا عَبْدُ اللَّهِ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ، حَدَّثَنَا عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عُمَرَ، أَخْبَرَنَا يُونُسُ، عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ، عَنْ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ بْنِ كَعْبِ بْنِ مَالِكٍ، عَنْ كَعْبٍ ـ رضى الله عنه ـ أَنَّهُ تَقَاضَى ابْنَ أَبِي حَدْرَدٍ دَيْنًا كَانَ لَهُ عَلَيْهِ فِي الْمَسْجِدِ، فَارْتَفَعَتْ أَصْوَاتُهُمَا حَتَّى سَمِعَهَا رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم وَهْوَ فِي بَيْتِهِ، فَخَرَجَ إِلَيْهِمَا، حَتَّى كَشَفَ سِجْفَ حُجْرَتِهِ فَنَادَى " يَا كَعْبُ ". قَالَ لَبَّيْكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. قَالَ " ضَعْ مِنْ دَيْنِكَ هَذَا ". فَأَوْمَأَ إِلَيْهِ، أَىِ الشَّطْرَ. قَالَ لَقَدْ فَعَلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ. قَالَ " قُمْ فَاقْضِهِ ".
English Translation
It is narrated by Hadrat Ka'b (bin Malik) (may Allah be well pleased with him) that he demanded repayment of his debt from (Hadrat Abdullah) Ibn Abi Hadrad (may Allah be well pleased with him) in the Masjid. Their voices grew loud until the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) heard them from his chamber. He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) came out, lifted the curtain of his chamber, and called out: 'O Hadrat Ka'b!' He submitted: 'At your service, O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)!' He (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated: 'Reduce your debt by this much' — and he gestured, meaning half. He submitted: 'O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! I have done so.' Then he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) stated (to Ibn Abi Hadrad): 'Rise and repay the (remaining) debt.'
Urdu Translation
حضرت کعب (بن مالک) رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے روایت ہے کہ انہوں نے (حضرت عبداللہ بن ابی حدرد رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہ سے) مسجد میں اپنے قرض کا تقاضا کیا۔ دونوں کی آوازیں بلند ہو گئیں یہاں تک کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے اپنے حجرہ مبارک سے سن لیں۔ آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے حجرے کا پردہ ہٹایا اور پکارا: اے کعب! انہوں نے عرض کیا: لبیک یا رسول اللہ! آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے ارشاد فرمایا: اپنے قرض میں سے اتنا کم کر دو — اور آپ نے اشارہ فرمایا یعنی آدھا۔ انہوں نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! میں نے کم کر دیا۔ پھر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم نے (ابن ابی حدرد سے) ارشاد فرمایا: اٹھو اور (باقی) قرض ادا کرو۔
