Arabic (Original)
حَدَّثَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ سَلاَمٍ، قَالَ أَخْبَرَنَا عَبْدَةُ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ، عَنْ عَائِشَةَ، قَالَتْ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صلى الله عليه وسلم إِذَا أَمَرَهُمْ أَمَرَهُمْ مِنَ الأَعْمَالِ بِمَا يُطِيقُونَ قَالُوا إِنَّا لَسْنَا كَهَيْئَتِكَ يَا رَسُولَ اللَّهِ، إِنَّ اللَّهَ قَدْ غَفَرَ لَكَ مَا تَقَدَّمَ مِنْ ذَنْبِكَ وَمَا تَأَخَّرَ. فَيَغْضَبُ حَتَّى يُعْرَفَ الْغَضَبُ فِي وَجْهِهِ ثُمَّ يَقُولُ " إِنَّ أَتْقَاكُمْ وَأَعْلَمَكُمْ بِاللَّهِ أَنَا ".
English Translation
Umm al-Mu'minin Hadrat Aisha (may Allah be well pleased with her) narrates that whenever the Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) commanded people to do something, he would only command them with deeds they were capable of performing. The Companions submitted: O Beloved Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him)! We are not like you; indeed Allah the Exalted has granted you complete protection in matters of lesser preference, past and future. Upon hearing this, he (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) became displeased, until displeasure was apparent on his blessed countenance. Then he declared: Indeed, I am the most God-fearing among you and the most knowledgeable of you about Allah.
Urdu Translation
حضرت اُمّ المؤمنین عائشہ رضی اللہ تعالیٰ عنہا فرماتی ہیں کہ رسول اللہ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم جب لوگوں کو کسی عمل کا حکم فرماتے تو ایسے ہی اعمال کا حکم دیتے جن کی طاقت لوگوں میں ہو۔ صحابہ نے عرض کیا: یا رسول اللہ! ہم آپ جیسے نہیں ہیں، بے شک اللہ تعالیٰ نے آپ کے لیے تمام ترکِ اولیٰ معاف فرما دیا ہے۔ یہ سن کر آپ صلی اللہ تعالیٰ علیہ وآلہ وسلم ناراض ہوئے، یہاں تک کہ ناراضگی آپ کے چہرۂ انور سے ظاہر ہونے لگی۔ پھر ارشاد فرمایا: بے شک میں تم سب میں سب سے زیادہ اللہ سے ڈرنے والا اور اللہ کو سب سے زیادہ جاننے والا ہوں۔
