عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالُوا إِنْ أَخْبَرَنَا بِمَا نَسْأَلُهُ عَنْهُ فَهُوَ نَبِيٌّ فَقَالُوا مِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ قَالَ إِنَّ نُطْفَةَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظَةٌ وَنُطْفَةَ الْمَرْأَةِ صَفْرَاءُ رَقِيقَةٌ فَأَيُّهُمَا غَلَبَ صَاحِبَتَهَا فَالشَّبَهُ لَهُ وَإن اجْتَمَعَا كَانَ مِنْهَا وَمِنْهُ قَالُوا صَدَقْتَوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رُوِيَ نَحْوٌ مِنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم مِنْ وُجُوهٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ زِيَادَةٌ لَيْسَتْ فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ ولاَ نَعْلَمُ يُرْوَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إلاَّ مِن هَذَا الْوَجْهِ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ نَفَرٌ مِنَ الْيَهُودِ فَقَالُوا إِنْ أَخْبَرَنَا بِمَا نَسْأَلُهُ عَنْهُ فَهُوَ نَبِيٌّ فَقَالُوا مِنْ أَيْنَ يَكُونُ الشَّبَهُ يَا مُحَمَّدُ قَالَ إِنَّ نُطْفَةَ الرَّجُلِ غَلِيظَةٌ وَنُطْفَةَ الْمَرْأَةِ صَفْرَاءُ رَقِيقَةٌ فَأَيُّهُمَا غَلَبَ صَاحِبَتَهَا فَالشَّبَهُ لَهُ وَإن اجْتَمَعَا كَانَ مِنْهَا وَمِنْهُ قَالُوا صَدَقْتَوَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ قَدْ رُوِيَ نَحْوٌ مِنْهُ عَنِ النَّبِيّ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم مِنْ وُجُوهٍ وَفِي حَدِيثِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ زِيَادَةٌ لَيْسَتْ فِي حَدِيثٍ غَيْرِهِ ولاَ نَعْلَمُ يُرْوَى عَنِ ابْنِ عَبَّاسٍ إلاَّ مِن هَذَا الْوَجْهِ
English Translation
A group of Jews came to [the Prophet] (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said: 'If he informs us about what we ask him, then he is a prophet.' They said: 'From where does resemblance come, O Muhammad?' He said: «The sperm of the man is thick and the fluid of the woman is yellow and thin. Whichever of the two overpowers the other, the resemblance belongs to that one. And if they are equal, [the child] is from both of them.» They said: 'You have spoken the truth.' This hadith has been narrated with a similar meaning from the Prophet from various routes. In the hadith of Ibn Abbas there is an addition not found in others' reports, and we do not know it to be narrated from Ibn Abbas except from this route.
