حَدَّثنا عَبدة بن عَبد الله قال أَخْبَرَنَا زيد بن الحباب قَال حَدَّثنا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ وَاقِدٍ عَنْ عَبد اللَّهِ بْنِ بُرَيدة عَن أَبيهِ رَضِي اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كَانَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم يَخْطُبُ فَأَقْبَلَ الْحَسَنُ وَالْحُسَيْنُ رَضِي اللَّهُ عَنْهُمَا عَلَيْهِمَا قَمِيصَانِ يَعْثُرَانِ وَيَقُومَانِ فَنَزَلَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم عَنِ الْمِنْبَرِ فَأَخَذَهُمَا فَوَضَعَهُمَا بَيْنَ يَدَيْهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ صَدَقَ اللَّهُ ورسوله إنما أموالكم وأولادكم فتنة وَهَذَا الْحَدِيثُ لا نَعْلَمُ رَوَاهُ إلاَّ بُرَيدة ولاَ نَعْلَمُ لَهُ طَريِقًا إلاَّ هَذَا الطَّرِيقَ
English Translation
Abda ibn Abdullah narrated to us, he said: Zayd ibn al-Hubab informed us, he said: al-Husayn ibn Waqid narrated to us from Abdullah ibn Burayda from his father (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) was delivering a sermon when al-Hasan and al-Husayn (may Allah be pleased with them) came forward wearing shirts, stumbling and getting up. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) descended from the pulpit, took them and placed them before him, then said: "Allah and His Messenger have spoken the truth: 'Your wealth and your children are but a trial.'" This hadith, we do not know anyone who narrated it except Burayda, and we do not know any route for it except this route.
