حَدَّثنا مُحَمد بن مَعْمَر قَال حَدَّثنا أَبُو داود قَال حَدَّثنا شَرِيكٌ عَن أَبِي عُمَر عَن أَبِي جُحَيْفَةَ رَضِي اللَّهُ عَنْهُ قَالَ كُنَّا عِنْدَ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم فَذَكَرَ الْجُدُودَ فَقِيلَ جَدُّ بَنِي فُلانٍ فِي الإِبِلِ وَجَدُّ بَنِي فُلانٍ أَوْ جَدُّ فُلانٍ فِي الْغَنَمِ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم حَتَّى إِذَا صَلَّى وَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ ولاَ مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ ولاَ يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ منك الجد عَلَيه وَسَلَّم فَذَكَرَ الْجُدُودَ فَقِيلَ جَدُّ بَنِي فُلانٍ فِي الإِبِلِ وَجَدُّ بَنِي فُلانٍ أَوْ جَدُّ فُلانٍ فِي الْغَنَمِ فَسَكَتَ رَسُولُ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيه وَسَلَّم حَتَّى إِذَا صَلَّى وَرَفَعَ رَأْسَهُ مِنَ الرُّكُوعِ قَالَ اللَّهُمَّ لا مَانِعَ لِمَا أَعْطَيْتَ ولاَ مُعْطِيَ لِمَا مَنَعْتَ ولاَ يَنْفَعُ ذَا الْجَدِّ منك الجد
English Translation
Hadrat Abu Juhayfah (may Allah be well pleased with him) narrated: We were with the Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) when lineages [and fortunes] were mentioned, and it was said: "The fortune of such-and-such a tribe is in camels, and the fortune of such-and-such a tribe is in sheep." The Messenger of Allah (blessings and peace of Allah be upon him) remained silent until he prayed, and when he raised his head from bowing, he said: «O Allah, there is no preventer of what You give, and no giver of what You prevent, and the fortune of one possessing fortune avails him nothing against You.»
