أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ أَحْمَدَ بْنِ عَبْدَانَ أنبأ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثنا عُبَيْدُ بْنُ شَرِيكٍ ثنا صَفْوَانُ عَنِ الْوَلِيدِ يَعْنِي ابْنَ مُسْلِمٍ ثنا شُعَيْبُ بْنُ زُرَيْقٍ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ عَطَاءً الْخُرَاسَانِيَّ عَنْ أَبِي الْغَوْثِ بْنِ الْحُصَيْنِ الْخَثْعَمِيِّ قَالَ قُلْتُ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ إِنَّ أَبِي أَدْرَكَتْهُ فَرِيضَةُ اللهِ فِي الْحَجِّ وَهُوَ شَيْخٌ كَبِيرٌ لَا يَتَمَالَكُ عَلَى الرَّاحِلَةِ فَمَا تَرَى أَنْ أَحُجَّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ حُجَّ عَنْهُ قَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ وَكَذَلِكَ مَنْ مَاتَ مِنْ أَهْلِينَا وَلَمْ يُوصِ بِحَجٍّ فَنَحُجُّ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَتُؤْجَرُونَ قَالَ وَيُتَصَدَّقُ عَنْهُ وَيُصَامُ عَنْهُ؟ قَالَ نَعَمْ وَالصَّدَقَةُ أَفْضَلُ وَكَذَلِكَ فِي النُّذُورِ وَالْمَشْيِ إِلَى الْمَسْجِدِ إِسْنَادُهُ ضَعِيفٌ
English Translation
Abu al-Ghawth ibn al-Husayn al-Khath'ami said: 'I said: O Messenger of Allah, the obligation of Allah regarding Hajj has come upon my father and he is an old man who cannot steady himself on the mount. What do you think - should I perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Yes, perform Hajj on his behalf.' He said: 'O Messenger of Allah, and what about someone from our family who dies without having made a bequest for Hajj - should we perform Hajj on his behalf?' He said: 'Yes, and you will be rewarded.' He said: 'And can charity be given and fasting done on his behalf?' He said: 'Yes, and charity is more virtuous.' Similarly regarding vows and walking to the mosque. Its chain is weak.
