English Translation
Abu Juhayfa reported: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) established brotherhood between Salman and Abu al-Darda'. Salman visited him and found Umm al-Darda' in a disheveled state. He said: 'What is the matter with you, O Umm al-Darda'?' She said: 'Your brother Abu al-Darda' prays all night and fasts all day and has no need for anything of this world.' Abu al-Darda' came and welcomed him and brought food. Salman said: 'Eat.' He said: 'I am fasting.' Salman said: 'I insist that you break your fast.' He said: 'I will not eat until you eat.' So they ate together. Then he spent the night with him, and when it was nighttime, Abu al-Darda' wanted to pray. Salman prevented him and said: 'O Abu al-Darda', your body has a right over you, your Lord has a right over you, and your family has a right over you. Fast and break your fast, pray and come to your family, and give every right-holder his right.' When it was near dawn, he said: 'Get up now if you wish.' They got up, performed ablution, prayed, then went out for the prayer. Abu al-Darda' drew near to tell the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) what Salman had ordered him. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'O Abu al-Darda', your body has a right over you — just as Salman told you.'
