English Translation
Abu Sa'id al-Khudri said: 'The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) went out on Eid al-Adha or Eid al-Fitr to the prayer ground. Then he stood and admonished the people and commanded them to give charity, saying: "O people, give charity." Then he went to the women and said: "O women, give charity, for I have been shown that you are the majority of the people of the Fire." They said: "Why is that, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "You curse frequently and are ungrateful to your husbands. I have not seen anyone more deficient in intellect and religion yet more capable of removing the sense of a resolute man than one of you, O women." They said: "What is our deficiency in religion and intellect, O Messenger of Allah?" He said: "Is not the testimony of a woman equal to half the testimony of a man?" They said: "Yes." He said: "That is from her deficiency in intellect. Is it not that when a woman menstruates, she neither prays nor fasts? That is from her deficiency in religion."'
