English Translation
Abdullah ibn Umar used to say: 'It is not proper for a slave to spend anything from his wealth or give it to anyone except with his master's permission — unless he eats from it in a reasonable manner or wears it.' The marfu' hadith (attributed to the Prophet) may, on a remote interpretation, mean that the Prophet intended to encourage the owner to permit his slave to give charity on his behalf, with the reward shared between them. But what the apparent meaning indicates — permissibility — is more befitting for one who seeks to follow the Sunnah. And success is from Allah.
