English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr narrated to us: Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub narrated to us: Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar narrated to us: Yunus ibn Bukayr narrated from Ibn Ishaq who said: al-Minhal ibn al-Jarrah narrated to me from Habib ibn Najih, from Ubada ibn Nusayy, from Mu'adh ibn Jabal that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) ordered him when he sent him to Yemen not to take anything from fractions. When silver reached two hundred dirhams, he would take five dirhams and would not take anything from the excess until it reached forty dirhams, from which he would take one dirham. Abu Bakr ibn al-Harith al-Faqih informed us: Ali ibn Umar al-Hafiz said to me after this hadith: al-Minhal ibn al-Jarrah's hadith is abandoned; he is Abu al-Atuf whose name is al-Jarrah ibn Minhal. Ibn Ishaq would reverse his name when narrating from him. Ubada ibn Nusayy did not hear from Mu'adh. The Sheikh said: If something like this were authentic, we would follow it and not contradict it, but its chain of transmission is very weak. And Allah knows best.
