أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ أَحْمَدُ بْنُ إِسْحَاقَ الْفَقِيهُ ثنا مُوسَى بْنُ الْحَسَنِ أنا الْقَعْنَبِيُّ ثنا سُلَيْمَانُ بْنُ بِلَالٍ عَنْ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ مُحَمَّدٍ عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ ال��هِ أَنَّ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ مَرَّ بِالسُّوقِ دَاخِلًا مِنْ بَعْضِ الْعَالِيَةِ وَالنَّاسُ كَنَفَتَيْهِ فَمَرَّ بِجَدْيٍ أَسَكَّ مَيْتٍ فَتَنَاوَلَهُ فَأَخَذَ يَعْنِي بِأُذُنِهِ ثُمَّ قَالَ أَيُّكُمْ يُحِبُّ أَنَّ هَذَا لَهُ بِدِرْهَمٍ؟ فَقَالُوا مَا نُحِبُّ أَنَّهُ لَنَا بِشَيْءٍ وَمَا نَصْنَعُ بِهِ قَالَ أَتُحِبُّونَ أَنَّهُ لَكُمْ؟ قَالُوا وَاللهِ لَوْ كَانَ حَيًّا كَانَ عَيْبًا فِيهِ لِأَنَّهُ أَسَكُّ فَكَيْفَ وَهُوَ مَيْتٌ فَقَالَ فَوَاللهِ لَلدُّنْيَا أَهْوَنُ عَلَى اللهِ مِنْ هَذَا عَلَيْكُمْ
English Translation
Jabir narrated: "The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) passed through the market from one of the upper areas while people were on both sides of him. He passed by a dead kid goat with small ears, picked it up by its ear, and said: 'Who among you would like to have this for a dirham?' They said: 'We would not want it for anything — what would we do with it?' He said: 'Would you like to have it?' They said: 'By Allah, even if it were alive, it would have a defect because of its small ears, so how about now that it is dead?' He said: 'By Allah, the world is more worthless to Allah than this is to you.'"
