English Translation
Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us... from Qatadah who said: I heard Abu Uthman al-Nahdi say: A letter from Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) came to us while we were with Utbah ibn Farqad in Azerbaijan, that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) forbade silk except this much - and he pointed with his two fingers that are next to the thumb. He said: We understood that he meant decorative borders.
