وَقَدْ أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحُسَيْنِ بْنُ الْفَضْلِ أنبأ أَبُو سَهْلِ بْنِ زِيَادٍ الْقَطَّانُ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدِ بْنِ عِيسَى الْبِرْتِيُّ ثنا أَبُو حُذَيْفَةَ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ الْقَاسِمِ عَنْ أَبِيهِ قَالَ كَانَ لِعَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ عَوْفٍ قَمِيصٌ مِنْ حَرِيرٍ يَلْبَسُهُ تَحْتَ ثِيَابِهِ فَقَالَ لَهُ عُمَرُ ؓ مَا هَذَا؟ قَالَ لَبِسْتُهُ عِنْدَ مَنْ هُوَ خَيْرٌ مِنْكَ ظَاهِرُ هَذَا يَدُلُّ عَلَى جَوَازِهِ فِي غَيْرِ الْحَرْبِ وَالْحَدِيثُ مُنْقَطِعٌ
English Translation
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl informed us... from Abd al-Rahman ibn al-Qasim, from his father, who said: Abd al-Rahman ibn Awf had a shirt made of silk that he used to wear underneath his clothes. Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) said to him: What is this? He said: I wore it in the presence of one who is better than you. The apparent meaning of this indicates its permissibility outside of war, but the hadith has a broken chain.
