وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السُّوسِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ أنبأ الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ بْنِ مَزْيَدَ أَخْبَرَنِي أَبِي ثنا الْأَوْزَاعِيُّ حَدَّثَنِي إِسْحَاقُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ بْنِ أَبِي طَلْحَةَ حَدَّثَنِي أَنَسُ بْنُ مَالِكٍ قَالَ أَصَابَتِ النَّاسَ سَنَةٌ عَلَى عَهْدِ رَسُولِ اللهِ ﷺ فَبَيْنَا رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عَلَى الْمِنْبَرِ يَوْمَ الْجُمُعَةِ يَخْطُبُ النَّاسَ فَأَتَاهُ أَعْرَابِيٌّ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ هَلَكَ الْمَالُ وَجَاعَ الْعِيَالُ فَادْعُ اللهَ لَنَا فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ يَعْنِي يَدَيْهِ وَمَا نَرَى فِي السَّمَاءِ قَزَعَةً فَوَالَّذِي نَفْسِي بِيَدِهِ مَا وَضَعَهَا حَتَّى ثَارَتْ سَحَابٌ كَأَمْثَالِ الْجِبَالِ ثُمَّ لَمْ يَنْزِلْ عَنِ الْمِنْبَرِ حَتَّى رَأَيْتُ الْمَطَرَ يَتَحَادَرُ عَلَى لِحْيَتِهِ فَمُطِرْنَا يَوْمَنَا ذَلِكَ وَمِنَ الْغَدِ وَمِنْ بَعْدِ الْغَدِ وَالَّذِي يَلِيهِ حَتَّى الْجُمُعَةِ الْأُخْرَى فَقَامَ ذَلِكَ الْأَعْرَابِيُّ أَوْ قَالَ رَجُلٌ غَيْرُهُ فَقَالَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ تَهَدَّمَ الْبِنَاءُ وَجَاعَ الْعِيَالُ فَادْعُ اللهَ لَنَا فَرَفَعَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ اللهُمَّ حَوَالَيْنَا وَلَا عَلَيْنَا قَالَ فَمَا يُشِيرُ بِيَدِهِ إِلَى نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ السَّحَابِ إِلَّا انْفَرَجَتْ حَتَّى صَارَتِ الْمَدِينَةُ مِثْلَ الْحَوْبَةِ وَسَالَ الْوَادِي وَادِي قَنَاةَ شَهْرًا وَلَمْ يَجِئْ أَحَدٌ مِنْ نَاحِيَةٍ مِنَ النَّوَاحِي إِلَّا حَدَّثَ بِالْجَوْدِ
English Translation
Abu 'Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu 'Abdullah Ishaq ibn Muhammad al-Susi informed us... from al-Awza'i... from Ishaq ibn 'Abdullah ibn Abi Talhah... from Anas ibn Malik who said: 'The people suffered a year of drought during the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). While the Messenger of Allah was on the minbar on Friday delivering the sermon, a Bedouin came and said: O Messenger of Allah, the livestock are dying and the families are hungry, so supplicate to Allah for us! The Messenger of Allah raised his hands, and we could not see a single cloud in the sky. By the One in Whose hand is my soul, he did not lower his hands before clouds appeared like mountains. He did not come down from the minbar before I saw rain streaming down his beard. We were rained upon that day, the next day, the day after, and the day after that, until the following Friday. That Bedouin - or another man - stood up and said: O Messenger of Allah, buildings are being destroyed and families are going hungry, so supplicate to Allah for us! The Messenger of Allah raised his hands and said: O Allah, around us and not upon us. He did not point his hands toward any direction of the sky except that it cleared up, until Madinah was like a clear opening (in the clouds). The valley - Wadi Qanah - flowed for a month, and no one came from any direction without reporting abundant rainfall.'
