English Translation
Abu Zakariyya Yahya ibn Ibrahim informed us... from al-Rabi'... from al-Shafi'i... from Sufyan, from Ibn 'Ajlan, from 'Iyad ibn 'Abdullah ibn Sa'd ibn Abi Sarh who said: 'I saw Abu Sa'id al-Khudri come while Marwan was delivering the sermon. He stood and prayed two rak'ahs. The guards came to make him sit down, but he refused to sit until he finished his two rak'ahs. When the prayer was over, we came to him and said: O Abu Sa'id, they almost did something to you! He said: I would not leave those two rak'ahs for anything after what I saw from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him). I saw a man come while the Prophet was delivering the sermon, in shabby clothing. He asked: Have you prayed? He said: No. He said: Pray two rak'ahs. Then he urged the people to give charity, and they gave clothes. The Messenger of Allah gave that man two garments. The following Friday, the same man came while the Prophet was delivering the sermon. He said: Pray two rak'ahs. Then he urged the people to give charity, and the man threw one of his two garments. The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) exclaimed and said: Take it back! Then he said: Look at this man. He came last Friday in shabby clothes, so I urged the people to give charity, and they gave clothes. I gave him two garments. And now on this Friday, I urged the people to give charity, and he threw one of his two garments!'
