English Translation
Abu Ahmad al-Mihrajani informed us... from Malik, from Hisham ibn 'Urwah, from his father that 'Umar ibn al-Khattab (may Allah be pleased with him) recited a verse of prostration while on the minbar on Friday. He came down and prostrated, and the people prostrated with him. Then the following Friday, he recited the same verse of prostration, and the people prepared to prostrate, but 'Umar said: 'Take it easy. Allah has not made it obligatory upon us unless we wish.' So he recited it and did not prostrate, and he prevented them from prostrating.
