أَخْبَرَنَا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ وَأَبُو الْحَسَنِ عَلِيُّ بْنُ مُحَمَّدٍ السَّبِيعِيُّ قَالَا ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ أَبِي طَالِبٍ أنبأ عَبْدُ الْوَهَّابِ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ أنبأ دَاوُدُ بْنُ أَبِي هِنْدَ عَنْ عَامِرٍ الشَّعْبِيِّ عَنْ عَائِشَةَ أَنَّهَا قَالَتْ فُرِضَتِ الصَّلَاةُ رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ إِلَّا الْمَغْرِبَ فُرِضَتْ ثَلَاثًا وَكَانَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا سَافَرَ صَلَّى الصَّلَاةَ الْأُولَى وَإِذَا أَقَامَ زَادَ مَعَ كُلِّ رَكْعَتَيْنِ رَكْعَتَيْنِ إِلَّا الْمَغْرِبَ لِأَنَّهَا وِتْرٌ وَالصُّبْحُ تَطُولُ فِيهَا الْقِرَاءَةُ هَكَذَا
English Translation
Aisha said: 'The prayer was prescribed two rak'ahs each, except Maghrib which was prescribed as three. When the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) traveled, he prayed the original prayer, and when he was resident, he added two more rak'ahs to each except Maghrib because it is the witr (odd) prayer, and Fajr because the recitation is lengthened in it.'
