English Translation
Uthman ibn Affan completed the prayer at Mina, then addressed the people saying: 'O people, the Sunnah is the Sunnah of the Messenger of Allah and his two companions, but something new has occurred among the people this year and I feared they would take it as a precedent.' The Shaykh said: Other reasons have been given, but the most likely is that he considered it a concession and saw completing the prayer as permissible, just as Aisha did. This has been narrated from more than one Companion, alongside their preference for shortening.
