English Translation
Abu Salih al-Anbari al-Tayyib ibn Muhammad al-Anbari informed us, from his grandfather Yahya ibn Mansur the judge, from Ahmad ibn Salamah, from Qutaybah ibn Sa'id, from al-Layth, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Jabir who said: Mu'adh ibn Jabal al-Ansari led his companions in the Isha prayer and prolonged it upon them. A man from among us departed and prayed on his own. Mu'adh was told about him and said: "He is a hypocrite." When that reached the man, he went to the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) and informed him of what Mu'adh had said to him. The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: "Do you want to be one who causes trial, O Mu'adh? When you lead the people in prayer, recite 'By the sun and its brightness' [al-Shams], 'Glorify the name of your Lord, the Most High' [al-A'la], 'By the night when it covers' [al-Layl], and 'Recite in the name of your Lord' [al-Alaq]." Muslim narrated it in his Sahih from Qutaybah ibn Sa'id.
