English Translation
Abu Zakariyya ibn Abi Ishaq al-Muzakki and others informed us... from Abdullah who said: 'We used to greet the Prophet (peace be upon him) while he was in prayer before we went to the land of Abyssinia, and he would return our greeting while in prayer. When we returned from the land of Abyssinia, I came to greet him and found him praying. I greeted him but he did not return my greeting. I was overcome with worry, and I sat until he finished his prayer. Then I came to him and he said: Indeed Allah, exalted be His praise, decrees from His command what He wills, and among what Allah has decreed is that you should not speak during prayer.' The hadiths of Jabir ibn Abdullah and Zayd ibn Arqam have preceded regarding this, and all of that is interpreted by us as referring to intentional speech.
