أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ أنبأ أَبُو حَامِدِ بْنُ بِلَالٍ ثنا يَحْيَى بْنُ الرَّبِيعِ الْمَكِّيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنِ الزُّهْرِيِّ عَنْ أَبِي الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ يَبْلُغُ بِهِ النَّبِيَّ ﷺ ح وَأَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو الْحَسَنِ بْنُ الْفُضَيْلِ الْقَطَّانُ بِبَغْدَادَ أنبأ عَبْدُ اللهِ بْنُ جَعْفَرِ بْنِ دَرَسْتَوَيْهِ ثنا يَعْقُوبُ بْنُ سُفْيَانَ ثنا أَبُو بَكْرٍ الْحُمَيْدِيُّ ثنا سُفْيَانُ ثنا الزُّهْرِيُّ قَالَ سَمِعْتُ أَبَا الْأَحْوَصِ عَنْ أَبِي ذَرٍّ يَقُولُ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ الرَّحْمَةَ تُوَاجِهُهُ فَلَا يَمْسَحِ الْحَصَا قَالَ سُفْيَانُ فَقَالَ سَعْدُ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ الزُّهْرِيُّ مَنْ أَبُو الْأَحْوَصِ؟ فَقَالَ الزُّهْرِيُّ أَمَا رَأَيْتَ الشَّيْخَ الَّذِي يُصَلِّي فِي الرَّوْضَةِ فَجَعَلَ الزُّهْرِيُّ يَنْعَتُهُ وَسَعْدٌ لَا يَعْرِفُهُ لَفْظُ حَدِيثِ الْحُمَيْدِيِّ وَفِي رِوَايَةِ يَحْيَى إِذَا قَامَ أَحَدُكُمْ إِلَى الصَّلَاةِ فَإِنَّ الرَّحْمَةَ تُوَاجِهُهُ فَلَا يَمْسَحِ الْحَصَا لَمْ يَذْكُرْ قِصَّةَ سَعْدٍ
English Translation
Abu Tahir informed us, Abu Hamid ibn Bilal informed us, Yahya ibn al-Rabi' al-Makki narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us from al-Zuhri from Abu al-Ahwas from Abu Dharr, attributed to the Prophet (peace be upon him). And Abu al-Hasan ibn al-Fudayl al-Qattan informed us in Baghdad, Abdullah ibn Ja'far ibn Darstuwayh informed us, Ya'qub ibn Sufyan narrated to us, Abu Bakr al-Humaydi narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, al-Zuhri narrated to us. He said: I heard Abu al-Ahwas narrating from Abu Dharr who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: 'When one of you stands for prayer, mercy faces him, so let him not smooth the pebbles.' Sufyan said: Sa'd ibn Ibrahim said to al-Zuhri: Who is Abu al-Ahwas? Al-Zuhri said: Have you not seen the old man who prays in the Rawdah? Al-Zuhri began describing him while Sa'd did not recognize him. This is the wording of al-Humaydi's hadith. In Yahya's narration: 'When one of you stands for prayer, mercy faces him, so let him not smooth the pebbles' — without the story of Sa'd.
