English Translation

Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz and Abu Sa'id ibn Abi Amr informed us, they said: Abu al-Abbas — he is al-Asamm — narrated to us, al-Abbas — he is ibn Muhammad al-Duri — narrated to us, Ali ibn Bahr al-Qattan narrated to us, Mu'adh ibn Hisham narrated to us. He said: My father narrated to me from Yahya ibn Abi Kathir from Ikrimah, the freed slave of Ibn Abbas, from Abdullah ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). He said: I think he attributed it to the Prophet (peace be upon him), who said: 'The prayer is interrupted by the dog, the donkey, the menstruating woman, the Jew, the Christian, the Magian, and the pig.' He said: It is sufficient if they are at a stone's throw distance from you; then they do not interrupt your prayer. And Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us, Muhammad ibn Bakr informed us, Abu Dawud narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Basri, freed slave of Banu Hashim, narrated to us, Mu'adh narrated to us and mentioned it similarly, except he said: I think from the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him): 'When one of you prays without a sutrah, his prayer is interrupted...' — and he did not mention the Christian. He said 'the woman' and did not mention 'menstruating.' He said: It is sufficient for him if they pass in front of him at a stone's throw distance.
