English Translation
Ma'qil ibn Yasar (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said: 'Act upon the Quran: make lawful what it makes lawful, prohibit what it prohibits, follow it, and do not disbelieve in any part of it. What is unclear to you in it, refer it to Allah and to the people of knowledge after me, so they may inform you. Believe in the Torah, the Gospel, the Psalms, and what the Prophets were given by their Lord. Let the Quran suffice you and what it contains of explanation, for it is an intercessor whose intercession is accepted, and a truthful advocate. Indeed, every verse has a light on the Day of Resurrection. I was given Surah al-Baqarah from the first reminder, and I was given Ta-Ha and the Ta-Sin chapters and the Ha-Mim chapters from the Tablets of Musa, and I was given the Opening of the Book from beneath the Throne.' Ubaydullah ibn Abi Humayd has been criticized. Al-Shafi'i said: Allah made the food of the People of the Book lawful, which according to the scholars of exegesis means their slaughtered animals.
