اسْتِدْلَالًا بِمَا أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ أنبأ أَبُو الْفَضْلِ بْنُ إِبْرَاهِيمَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ سَلَمَةَ ثنا قُتَيْبَةُ بْنُ سَعِيدٍ ثنا اللَّيْثُ عَنْ يَزِيدَ هُوَ ابْنُ أَبِي حَبِيبٍ عَنْ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي رَبَاحٍ عَنْ جَابِرِ بْنِ عَبْدِ اللهِ ؓ أَنَّهُ سَمِعَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ يَقُولُ عَامَ الْفَتْحِ وَهُوَ بِمَكَّةَ إِنَّ اللهَ وَرَسُولَهُ حَرَّمَ بَيْعَ الْخَمْرِ وَالْمَيْتَةِ وَالْخِنْزِيرِ وَالْأَصْنَامِ فَقِيلَ يَا رَسُولَ اللهِ أَرَأَيْتَ شُحُومَ الْمَيْتَةِ فَإِنَّهُ يُطْلَى بِهَا السُّفُنُ وَيُدْهَنُ بِهَا الْجُلُودُ وَيَسْتَصْبِحُ بِهَا النَّاسُ فَقَالَ لَا هُوَ حَرَامٌ قَالَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ عِنْدَ ذَلِكَ قَاتَلَ اللهُ الْيَهُودَ إِنَّ اللهَ لَمَّا حَرَّمَ عَلَيْهِمْ شُحُومَهَا أَجْمَلُوهُ ثُمَّ بَاعُوهُ
English Translation
In corroboration of [the above], Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us: Abu al-Fadl ibn Ibrahim reported to us: Ahmad ibn Salamah narrated to us: Qutaybah ibn Sa'id narrated to us: al-Layth narrated to us, from Yazid — that is, Ibn Abi Habib — from Ata ibn Abi Rabah, from Jabir ibn Abdullah (may Allah be pleased with them), that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say in the Year of the Conquest, while he was in Mecca: "Indeed Allah and His Messenger have forbidden the sale of wine, carrion (maytah), swine, and idols." It was said: "O Messenger of Allah, what about the fat of carrion, for ships are caulked with it, hides are greased with it, and people use it for lamp-fuel?" He said: "No, it is forbidden." Then the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said at that: "May Allah destroy the Jews! When Allah forbade them its fat, they rendered it down, then sold it."
