أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو عَبْدِ اللهِ الْحَافِظُ ثنا أَبُو الْعَبَّاسِ مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ يَعْقُوبَ ثنا أَحْمَدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْجَبَّارِ ثنا يُونُسُ بْنُ بُكَيْرٍ عَنِ ابْنِ عَوْنٍ عَنْ عُمَيْرِ بْنِ إِسْحَاقَ قَالَ كَتَبَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ إِلَى كِسْرَى وَقَيْصَرَ فَأَمَّا قَيْصَرُ فَوَضَعَهُ وَأَمَّا كِسْرَى فَمَزَّقَهُ فَبَلَغَ ذَلِكَ رَسُولَ اللهِ ﷺ فَقَالَ أَمَّا هَؤُلَاءِ فَيُمَزَّقُونَ وَأَمَّا هَؤُلَاءِ فَسَتَكُونُ لَهُمْ بَقِيَّةٌ قَالَ الشَّافِعِيُّ رَحِمَهُ اللهُ وَوَعَدَ رَسُولُ اللهِ ﷺ النَّاسَ فَتْحَ فَارِسَ وَالشَّامِ
English Translation
Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us > Abu al-Abbas Muhammad ibn Ya'qub > Ahmad ibn Abd al-Jabbar > Yunus ibn Bukayr > Ibn Awn > Umayr ibn Ishaq, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) wrote to Chosroes and Caesar. As for Caesar, he preserved the letter, and as for Chosroes, he tore it up. When this reached the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him), he said: "As for these, they will be torn apart, and as for those, they will have a remnant." Al-Shafi'i (may Allah have mercy on him) said: And the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) promised the people the conquest of Persia and Syria.
