English Translation
Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us, from Muhammad ibn Bakr, from Abu Dawud, from Uthman ibn Abi Shaybah, from Abdullah ibn Idris, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Isma'il ibn Umayyah, from Abu al-Zubayr, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: When your brothers were killed at Uhud, Allah placed their souls inside green birds that drink from the rivers of Paradise, eat from its fruits, and return to golden lanterns suspended in the shade of the Throne. When they experienced the goodness of their food, drink, and resting place, they said: Who will convey to our brothers on our behalf that we are alive in Paradise, receiving provision, so that they will not lose interest in jihad or turn away from battle? Allah the Almighty said: I will convey it on your behalf. Then Allah the Almighty revealed: "And do not think of those who are killed in the cause of Allah as dead. Rather, they are alive" [Al Imran 3:169] until the end of the verses.
