Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu Bakr ibn Ishaq al-Faqih, from Bishr ibn Musa; and Abu Ali al-Rudhbari informed us, from Muhammad ibn Bakr, from Abu Dawud, both from Sa'id ibn Mansur, from Abu Mu'awiyah, from Ja'far ibn Burqan, from Yazid ibn Abi Nushbah, from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) said: Three things are from the foundation of faith: refraining from harming anyone who says 'There is no god but Allah' — not declaring him a disbeliever for any sin nor expelling him from Islam for any deed; jihad continues from when Allah sent me until the last of my nation fights the Dajjal — it is not invalidated by the tyranny of a tyrant nor the justice of a just ruler; and belief in divine decree. The hadith of Makhul from Abu Hurayrah from the Prophet (peace be upon him): Jihad is obligatory upon you with every leader, whether righteous or sinful — has been mentioned in the chapter on Leadership and the Book of Funerals.
