English Translation
Abu al-Husayn ibn al-Fadl al-Qattan informed us in Baghdad, from Abdullah ibn Ja'far, from Ya'qub ibn Sufyan, from Ubaydullah ibn Musa, from Sufyan; and Abu Abdullah al-Hafiz informed us, from Abu Bakr Ahmad ibn Salman al-Faqih, from Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Isa, from Muhammad ibn Kathir and Abu Hudhayfah, both from Sufyan, from Abu Ishaq who said: I heard al-Bara' ibn Azib (may Allah be pleased with him) — and a man came to him and said: O Abu Umarah, did you flee on the day of Hunayn? He said: As for me, I testify that the Messenger of Allah (peace be upon him) did not turn back. But the hasty vanguard rushed forward, and Hawazin showered them with arrows, while Abu Sufyan ibn al-Harith held the head of his white mule. He was saying: I am the Prophet, no lie! I am the son of Abd al-Muttalib!
