أَخْبَرَنَا أَبُو طَاهِرٍ الْفَقِيهُ أنبأ أَبُو عُثْمَانَ الْبَصْرِيُّ ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الْوَهَّابِ أنبأ يَعْلَى بْنُ عُبَيْدٍ ثنا سُفْيَانُ عَنْ سِمَاكِ بْنِ حَرْبٍ عَنْ عَبْدِ الرَّحْمَنِ بْنِ أَبِي لَيْلَى قَالَ حِينَ رَجَمَ عَلِيٌّ ؓ شَرَاحَةَ قُلْتُ مَاتَتْ عَلَى شَرِّ أَحْيَانِهَا قَالَ فَأَخَذَ بِثَوْبِي ثُمَّ قَالَ إِنَّهُ مَنْ أَتَى شَيْئًا مِنْ حَدٍّ فَأُقِيمَ عَلَيْهِ الْحَدُّ فَهُوَ كَفَّارَتُهُ
English Translation
Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla said: "When Ali stoned Sharahah, I said: 'She died in the worst of her times.' Ali grabbed my garment and said: 'Whoever commits something deserving a prescribed punishment and the punishment is carried out upon him, it is his expiation.'"
